Call for Board Nominations

The CUPA-HR Maryland Chapter board of directors is seeking nominations – both self-nominations and nominations of your colleagues – for President-Elect, Members at-Large, Registrar and Treasurer. Deadline for nominations is March 29, 2024. As a board member, you will have the opportunity to engage with and support your fellow Maryland HR professionals working in the higher education community. Terms will begin July 1, 2024.

CUPA-HR has been at the forefront of education and resources for HR professionals in colleges and universities. As you may already know, the CUPA-HR community provides a means for HR professionals like you to exchange information, tips, resources, and stories with your fellow colleagues in Maryland and across the country.

Open Positions:

  • President-Elect (three-year term)
    The President-elect assists the President with planning projects throughout the year, collaborates with the President to implement conferences/events, and assumes the duties of the President when necessary. This position also serves as the Programs/Professional Development Committee Chair. This position has a three-year commitment (one year as President-elect, one year as President, and one year as Past President).
  • Member at Large (two-year term)
    Member-at-Large shall provide support to the initiatives of the Chapter and work in conjunction with the board of directors to effectively establish and bring to fruition the strategic priorities of the Board in areas including communications, corporate partnerships, and other responsibilities based on the strengths and skills of the board members and the needs of the Chapter.
  • Registrar (two-year term)
    Create and track event registrations. Prints name badges for events and checks in attendees. Sends event details to attendees pre and post event, which may include location, directions, agendas, handouts, and evaluations.
  • Treasurer (two-year term)
    The Treasurer documents, collects and distributes information and materials related to board financial operations. Shall maintain the Chapter bank account and provide a financial summary report at each board meeting. Shall maintain all chapter financial records in a timely and organized manner.

Chapter Officer Selection Criteria:

All individuals holding a designated officer position must be listed as a representative of a higher education institution that is a member of the CUPA-HR national organization and that is supportive of this nomination.

Additionally, all board and non-board members are expected to:

  • Show commitment to the Maryland Chapter and its activities by participating in monthly board meetings and attending Chapter events;
  • Provides leadership consistent with CUPA-HR’s commitment to providing equal opportunity for participation in all aspects of the organization without regard to race, gender, national/ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, veteran, religion or disabled status;
  • Collaborates with and support board member colleagues in completion of their responsibilities;
  • Ensures smooth transition of information when transitioning between board roles or departing the board;
  • Takes an active role in recruiting members to join the Chapter board

Chapter board and non-board member qualifications:

  • Be listed as a representative of a higher education institution that is a member of the CUPA-HR national organization;
  • Must be an employee of a post-secondary educational institution in the Maryland area;
  • A human resource professional who is currently in the field with no less than 50% of her/his job devoted to human resources activities
