Spring 2023 Event

CUPA-HR New Jersey Chapter

The CUPA-HR New Jersey Chapter is excited to announce our second In-Person event on         Friday, April 21, 2023 from 9:00 – 1:00

Join us at “The Rutgers Club”  in Piscataway, NJ for a half-day networking and presentation event.  The event is designed to allow our chapter the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the State of NJ and receive important industry information regarding financial measures in HR and retirement income sources.

“MONEY MATTERS”

Using Financial Measures to Elevate HR Initiatives – Through the lens of the HR manager, this presentation introduces the purpose and interaction of financial statements, cost behavior, operating leverage, and capital investment. We will also outline a cost benefit analysis for assessing and developing HR practices and programs. By the end of the presentation, attendees should be more familiar with accounting as the language of business as well as be able to identify how the balance sheet and income statement represent a business’s financial results. Lead by Rutgers own Mr. Douglas Coffey

Retirement Income – Discussion and details about income sources. For most constituents, retirement income will come from several sources, including:

Social Security

Retirement accounts and personal savings

And other sources like earned income, pensions, real estate, and inheritances

When you add up all of your income sources, you may find you don’t have enough to cover your expenses. We call that an income gap and we’ll discuss ways you may be able to narrow or close your income gap, including saving more in your retirement plan. Lead by our Vendor Sponsors from VOYA

Your Retirement Plan at Work – On overview of the many options available through your employers and beyond.  Lead by our Vendor Sponsors from VALIC.

Presenters:

Professor Douglas Coffey – Professor Coffey has been a member of the School of Management and Labor Relations’ Human Resource Management faculty at Rutgers University since 2012. His courses focus on the intersection of finance and HR as well as the application of economic principles to enhance the HR professional’s toolkit.

Teaching at the university level is “Act II” in Professor Coffey’s career. The earlier part of his career was in banking and financial services, primarily in the Wall Street area working as a talent management professional for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Prior to the Federal Reserve, he was a training manager at Barclays Bank. Throughout his career, he has held responsibilities where his background in finance and economics has been needed to understand his clients, plan, and promote initiatives, and train others. As a result, he is a big believer in the need for such coursework within the Human Resource Management programs.

Frank Booth, CRPS, Voya Financial Advisors, Inc. is a Financial Advisor, Investment Advisor Representative with over 30 years of experience working with clients in financial services. He has focused specifically on retirement plan clients in the tax-exempt markets of government, healthcare, and education for the past 20 years. He began his advisory career as a stock- broker but quickly realized the benefit of providing long-term financial guidance instead of transactional assistance for clients. In addition to helping individual clients, he has consulted to companies and business owners on retirement plan design.

He received the Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist designation from the College for Financial Planning and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Design.
