CUPA-HR DC Metro Chapter

Call for Board Nominations

The CUPA-HR DC Chapter board of directors is seeking nominations – both self-nominations and nominations of your colleagues – for President-Elect and Member at-Large board members. As a board member, you will have the opportunity to engage with and support your fellow DC Metro HR professionals working in the higher education community. Terms will begin July 1, 2023.

CUPA-HR has been at the forefront of education and resources for HR professionals in colleges and universities. As you may already know, the CUPA-HR community provides a means for HR professionals like you to exchange information, tips, resources, and stories with your fellow colleagues in the DC Metro and across the country.

Open Positions

President-Elect (one-year term)
The President-elect shall serve as the special aide to the President, and shall assume all presidential
duties in the absence of the President. The President-elect serves as Chair of the Program Planning
Committee charged with planning and implementing the annual conferences and meetings of the chapter. This position has a three-year commitment (one year as President-elect, one year as President, and one year as Past President).

Secretary (two-year term)
The Secretary shall record all official actions of the Board and of the membership at programming
events. The Secretary will also ensure that members are notified of time, date and place of meetings,
and ensure distribution of agenda materials.
Specific Duties:
● Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board
● Updates and maintains all official Board documents and operational information in google drive
● Schedules meetings, takes minutes and distributes to the Board in a timely manner
● Emails meeting agenda and supplemental materials to Board members in advance of meetings
● Produces accurate meeting minutes and distributes to the Board within one week of each meeting

Back-up Treasurer (two-year term)

The Back-up Treasurer ensures continuity of coverage of the Treasure responsibilities in the event the Treasure is not available.

Member at Large (one-year term)
Member-at-Large assists the DC Metro Chapter and board with events and program planning and
sponsor recruitment; and promotes the association’s values to DC Metro CUPA members. This is a one-
year term with an option to renew.
Specific Duties:
● Serves as liaison between membership and board
● Attend and participate in board meetings
● Support board members with activities and tasks related to all events
● Engage membership through social media
● Support with special initiatives

Chapter Officer Selection Criteria

All individuals holding a designated officer position must be listed as a representative of a higher education institution that is a member of the CUPA-HR national organization and that is supportive of this nomination.

Additionally, all board and non-board members are expected to:
■ Show commitment to the DC Chapter and its activities by participating in monthly board
meetings and attending Chapter events
■ Provides leadership consistent with CUPA-HR’s commitment to providing equal opportunity
for participation in all aspects of the organization without regard to race, gender,
national/ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, veteran, religion or disabled status
■ Collaborates with and support board member colleagues in completion of their responsibilities
■ Ensures smooth transition of information when transitioning between board roles or departing
the board
■ Takes an active role in recruiting members to join the Chapter board

Chapter board and non-board member qualifications:
■ Be listed as a representative of a higher education institution that is a member of the CUPA-
HR national organization
■ Must be an employee of a post-secondary educational institution in the DC Metro area
■ A human resource professional who is currently in the field with no less than 50% of her/his
job devoted to human resources activities
