Join us on August 12 at 11:00 a.m. for a free webinar on Retaliation Claims in Higher Education with Fisher Phillips! Presented by Sheila M. Abron of Fisher Phillips, this session will tackle what higher education institutions face, particularly regarding exposure, given the volume of internal complaints generated through Title IX, Human Resources, and faculty grievance processes. Discussion during the webinar will include what legally constitutes retaliation, the most common human resources missteps that may create liability in the aftermath of a complaint or investigation and how to structure adverse employment decisions (including discipline, reassignment and non-renewals) to withstand legal scrutiny.
This webinar is part of a series of webinars to be hosted throughout the year by CUPA-HR’s South Carolina Chapter. For those pursuing SHRM certification, these webinars will qualify as a SHRM credit.

About the Speaker
Sheila M. Abron is a partner at Fisher Phillips, LLP. Certified as a Specialist in Employment and Labor Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court, Sheila represent companies and educational institutions, large and small, as they navigate employment issues related to hiring, discipline, investigation, employment discrimination, unemployment, and other related issues. As Chair of the Firm’s Government Contracting, Compliance, and Reporting practice group, she has extensive experience providing compliance advice to federal contractors on affirmative action and OFCCP regulations and audits. Sheila also has a wealth of experience working on collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and class actions under wage and hour state laws. She is a member of the National Associations of College and University Attorneys (NACUA). Sheila also provides training for supervisors and managers on harassment, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) compliance, the Family Medical Leave Act, diversity and inclusion, and many other areas.
Sheila’s depth of experience in a variety of employment-related issues has made her a trusted source for commentary. She is regularly quoted in prominent media outlets such as Bloomberg Law, The Wall Street Journal, Inc.
