The Michigan Chapter of College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (MI CUPA-HR) provides opportunities for increased collaboration between Human Resources professionals at Colleges and Universities in the State of Michigan for the purpose of advancing the practice of personnel and human resource administration in higher education.


The CUPA-HR Michigan Chapter board is seeking nominations – both self-nominations and nominations of your colleagues – for President-Elect and At-Large board members. As a board member you will have the opportunity to engage with and support your fellow Michiganders working in the Michigan Higher Education Community. Terms will begin July 1, 2021.

The College and University Professional Association in Human Resources (CUPA-HR) has been at the forefront of education and resources for COVID-19, specifically for HR professionals in colleges and universities. As you may already know, the CUPA-HR community provides a means for HR professionals like you to exchange information, tips, and resources with your fellow colleagues across the country and in Michigan. In these uniquely challenging times, we need each other more than ever, and that includes leadership of our state chapter.

The President-Elect shall serve as the special aide to the President and shall assume all presidential duties in the absence of the President. The President-Elect serves as Chair of the Continued Learning Committee charged with planning and implementing ongoing learning events (typically virtual) at least once per quarter. The President-Elect shall succeed to the office of President in the year following tenure as President-Elect. The expected average level of commitment for the President-Elect is approximately one hour per week.

The At-Large member (two-year commitment) collaborate with the board on programming, building chapter resources and assisting with the strategic mission of the chapter. The expected average level of commitment for the At Large member is approximately thirty minutes per week or two hours every month.

Chapter Officer Selection Criteria

  • Officers must be committed to the chapter and its activities.
  • All individuals holding a designated officer position must be listed as a representative of a higher education institution that is a member of the CUPA-HR national organization
  • Officers must be a higher education HR professional who is currently employed in the field with no less than 50 percent of their job devoted to HR activities.
  • Officers must provide leadership that is consistent with CUPA-HR’s commitment to providing equal opportunity for participation in all aspects of the organization without regard to race, gender, national/ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, veteran, religion, or disabled status.

Nominations should include a resume or CV of the nominee as well as a statement of interest. The statement of interest should include a brief overview of the nominee’s contributions to higher education. Submit a nomination by April 9 to Chapter Secretary Joe Zynda at .

Service to the Michigan Chapter board is on a voluntary basis and requires commitment throughout the term to manage programming, communications, finances, and conferences.

Annual Conference Planning Committee: Plan and coordinate the 2021 Annual Conference by participating on one or more of the six subcommittees as well as assisting during the Annual Conference.

The CUPA-HR Michigan Chapter has an online community for local professionals in higher education to share ideas, challenges, questions and other relevant information with one another. Anyone can participate in our chapter community, regardless of CUPA-HR membership. The only requirement is that each person has a free CUPA-HR website account. National members and individuals who have made purchases or registered for events on the site already have accounts.
