Dear Colleagues:

It is our sincere pleasure to invite you to the spring 2018 Professional Development Program being held by SNECUPA-HR, your local chapter of CUPA-HR.  This program will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018, in the Innovation Forum, Academic Innovation Center at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.  Driving directions and parking information may be found at:

We are thrilled to be able to offer this program.  The content is inspiring, informative and timely, and the presenters are top-notch.  We have included a brief description, but please follow the link below for more details on the program and presenters:

Morning Workshop (9:10 a.m.- 11:50a.m.): Design Thinking for HR Professionals with Bryant University IDEA Program Faculty  – Mike Roberto, D.B.A.,  Trustee Professor of Management/ Director, Center for Program Innovation and Allison Butler, PhD, Associate Professor of Applied Psychology

As the landscape of higher education changes, HR roles are expanding and refocusing. Far from simply reacting, HR professionals are uniquely positioned to look ahead to industry and global changes and to anticipate the resulting impact on how “business” is conducted on our campuses. As such, HR professionals are being called upon to be innovative leaders and problem solvers who possess critical thinking skills, can develop creative solutions, know how to collaborate and connect, all with empathy and integrity.

During this dynamic and interactive session, Mike Roberto and Allison Butler will introduce participants to design thinking  – a process of observation, brainstorming, and rapid prototyping used to develop solutions that create value for individuals and organizations.

Afternoon Sessions (12:50-3:00pm):

(12:50-1:15pm) Pay Equity Updates with Samia M. Kirmani, Principal at Jackson Lewis P.C., Boston, MA

In this informative session, Samia M. Kirmani will present updates and information on Pay Equity in the workplace, particularly in the wake of the amendment to the Massachusetts Equal Pay Act, effective July 1, 2018. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue and learn from several SNECUPA Board members, in addition to the informational and legal update from Samia, about the work they are doing at their institutions with regard to pay equity.

(1:15-3:00pm) Making the Unconscious, Conscious- Examining how unconscious bias affects the workplace and our role in managing the workplace environment with Darrien Davenport, Executive Director of Multicultural Engagement for Gettysburg College

Join us for an engaging session with Darrien Davenport, where participants will have the opportunity to clearly define unconscious bias, identify issues of unconscious bias, and engage in the development of solution-based strategies to address workplace bias.
