Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming human resources, offering powerful tools for recruiting, hiring, performance management, and workforce planning. Yet these technologies bring significant legal risks that employers must carefully navigate. This seminar, presented by Joshua Hughes of Ogletree Deakins, will provide Ohio CUPA-HR members with a practical overview of the key legal considerations surrounding AI in HR.
Topics will include the evolving federal and state regulatory landscape, including guidance from the EEOC and Department of Labor, as well as the application of anti-discrimination statutes such as Title VII, the ADA, and the ADEA to AI-assisted employment decisions. Mr. Hughes will also address the risks of disparate impact and algorithmic bias, strategies for bias auditing and vendor due diligence, and privacy and data security concerns arising from the collection and processing of employee and applicant data. The session will conclude with practical guidance on building internal AI governance and compliance frameworks, followed by an interactive question-and-answer period.
This seminar is designed for higher education HR professionals at Ohio CUPA-HR member institutions who are considering or currently using AI-enabled tools in their employment practices.

The 2026 Conference will be November 5-6, 2026 at The Ohioan Hotel & Event Center in Lewis Center, Ohio. A link to conference registration will be available in summer 2026.
Registration rates:
- Early bird registration (July 1 - September 15): $225 for two days or $125 for one day*
- Regular registration (September 16 - October 15): $250 for two days or $150 for one day*
- Late registration (October 16 - November 4): $275 for two days or $175 for one day*
- On-site/walk-up registration: $300 for two days or $200 for one day*
- Payment for late and on-site registration will be due at time of registration
*One-day registration rates do not include dinner
