They will actively engage membership and potential membership as appropriate at local and regional meetings, conferences, and networking events.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Managing the important work of the chapter is a team effort. Board members agree to participate in scheduled meetings and actively engage by leading and completing projects within specified timelines. Board members understand their work as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cupahr.org\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CUPA-HR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> leaders are grounded in strategic priorities, core values, and a code of ethics. The CUPA-HR NNE Chapter exists to \u201cserve higher education by providing the knowledge, resources, advocacy, and connections to achieve organizational and workforce excellence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shows commitment to the Chapter and its activities by regularly participating in monthly Board meetings (at least 75% of meetings) via telephone or video conferencing, attending the CUPA-HR NNE events, and annual Board meetings. Missing more than two consecutive meetings without prior notice may result in a review of the member\u2019s commitment;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Board members must actively participate in at least two subcommittees per year, and attend at least 75% of committee meetings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collaborate with and support Board member colleagues in the completion of their responsibilities, in particular as relates to Chapter events;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ensures smooth transition of information when transitioning between Board roles or departing the Board, including maintaining documentation relevant to one\u2019s role shared to the Chapter\u2019s google drive;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Takes an active role in recruiting members to join the Chapter Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">May take the lead on a project to further the goals of the organization;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provides leadership consistent with CUPA-HR\u2019s commitment to providing equal opportunity for participation in all aspects of the organization without regard to race, gender, national\/ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, veteran, religion, or disabled status.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*<\/b><b>President<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(one-year term; succeeds to the role of Past-President - overall a two-year term)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The President serves as the Chief Volunteer of the Chapter and partners with the regional and national CUPA-HR Boards to achieve the Association\u2019s mission. The President provides leadership to the Board of Directors, which sets policy for the Chapter. The President also chairs meetings of the Board after developing the agenda and helps guide and mediate Board actions concerning organizational priorities and governance concerns.\u00a0 The President may appoint committees as determined is advisable to assist in accomplishing the Chapter's mission and goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provides leadership to the Chapter and collaborates with Board members to set the tone, direction, and strategic priorities for the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serves as liaison with the National CUPA-HR Office, Regional Boards, and other Chapters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develops agenda and chairs Board meetings;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Signs all contracts and official Board documents;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oversees and develops Chapter communications and works with State Representatives\/Members at Large for timely outreach to the Chapter\u2019s constituents;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Facilitates policy development and modifications;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Executes responsible and sustainable budgetary actions;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attends Association Leadership Program (ALP).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*President-Elect <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(one-year term, succeeds to the role of President, then Past President - overall a three-year term)<\/span><b><br \/>\n<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The President-elect shall serve as the president's special aide and assume all presidential duties in the absence of the President. The President-elect serves as Chair of the Program Planning Committee charged with planning and implementing the annual conferences and meetings of the Chapter.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Responsible for Chapter sponsor relationships and serves as the primary point of contact;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In collaboration with the current and past President, facilitates and guides membership engagement activities and communications;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collaborates with the President and Events Chair to plan and implement events and meetings;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">May chair committees and lead special projects as needed;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develop agenda and Board retreat program for Annual Meeting;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Develops and maintains sponsor relationships;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Builds relationships with National CUPA-HR Office in preparation for assuming Presidential responsibilities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assumes all presidential duties in the absence of the President.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Second to attend ALP if funding is available.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*Past President<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Past President shall act as an advisor to the President and the Board to ensure continuity of leadership.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Provides advice and leadership to the Board regarding past practices and other matters to assist in governing the Chapter;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supports the President and the President-Elect on an as-needed basis and special projects;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Past President is expected to attend Board meetings and Chapter events and may serve on select subcommittees.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*Treasurer<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(two-year term; may be re-elected to a two-year term)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Treasurer shall ensure that the Chapter operates on sound fiscal principles. The Treasurer shall present the Chapter's annual budget to the Board of Directors and periodically report on the Chapter\u2019s fiscal status. The Treasurer shall recommend all fiscal policies and operating procedures to the Board of Directors.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reports to the Board regarding key financial events, trends, concerns, and assessment of fiscal health;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Completes required financial reporting and tax forms in a timely fashion and makes these forms available to the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selects a bank, signs checks, and ensures appropriate Board members have signing authority;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serves as the person responsible for timely payment of outstanding bills or debts owed;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oversees conference registration and maintains associated software to manage registrations;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Produces financial reports as required by CUPA National.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>*Secretary\/Communications<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(two-year term; may be re-elected to a two-year term)<\/span><b><br \/>\n<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Secretary shall record all official actions of the Board of Directors and the membership at the Chapter\u2019s annual business meeting. The secretary will also ensure members are notified of the time, date, and place of meetings and ensure the distribution of agenda materials.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintains all official Board documents and operational information in Google Drive;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reviews and updates the Chapter timeline to report out to Board monthly;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Schedules meetings and produces accurate written meeting minutes, distributed to the Board within one week of each meeting;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manages and maintains Chapter website and Social Media presence \u2013 updating as necessary;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manages communications with Chapter membership, including coordinating (with CUPA-HR national office) to send email blasts related to membership and events.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Drafts annual board meeting agenda in conjunction with the President and President-elect;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">E-mails post-meeting follow-up to the Board, with links to meeting minutes and action items highlighted;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tracks timing of the annual meeting to ensure advance notice to the membership occurs 60 days before the meeting date per Chapter Bylaws;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintains HR accreditations (SHRM\/HRCI), including submitting event requests.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p><\/p><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Events Chair\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(one-year term; may be re-elected to a one-year term)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Events Chair shall be responsible for the planning and executing two yearly educational events.\u00a0 The Events Chair works in collaboration with the Board and in close partnership with the President-Elect in the planning and implementing of annual conferences and meetings of the Chapter.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the planning and logistics for spring and fall educational events, the Chapter annual meeting, and other events as necessary;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plans the event schedule to be mindful of National and Regional CUPA-HR events as well as other events at the local State level;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Responsible for timely application of the educational programming certification (SHRM\/HRCI) pre-approval process, ensuring that sessions offered meet the standards required;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manages detailed event timeline (excel tool), assigns tasks to Board members, and maintains the tool.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>State Representatives <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(one-year term, may be re-elected to a one-year term)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These board members shall represent the interests and concerns of the institutions and members in their respective states in Chapter decisions and planning. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition, engages with CUPA NNE region higher education human resources individuals, whether current or potential CUPA members, sharing the Chapter mission, best practices, and opportunities for professional development.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Specific Duties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Works with the Board officers to support program planning, communication, outreach, and publicizing Chapter events and networking opportunities with the higher education institutions in the state they represent;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Plans and coordinates State specific networking opportunities for members and potential Chapter members as interest and time allow;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reaches out to new members within their state upon CUPA-HR notification of such membership (July and January);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the absence of a Communications Chair, this role will focus on a specific area of membership engagement, such as website management, a new member welcome, CUPA-HR blasts, CUPA-HR Connect, social media, et al..<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Member-at-Large<\/b><b>: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(one-year term, may be re-elected to a one-year term)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This board member serves as a liaison with the board and chapter membership to support committee work involving the feedback and engagement of chapter members and to enhance the experience of board member onboarding. Specific duties include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carries out the responsibilities of a member of the Board of Directors;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assists in the recruitment and development of a membership engagement\/onboarding committee in partnership with board leadership;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Organizes and facilitates committee meetings;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Manages communications with committee members and board members;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supports the outreach and promotion of chapter events (local and chapter-wide wide.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>ALP (Association Leadership Program) Conference<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The opportunity to attend the ALP Conference is extended annually to board members as a recognition of leadership and to support professional development. The following guidelines apply:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Primary Delegate: The President is the designated representative and is offered the opportunity to attend, if they have not already attended.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alternate Delegate: If the President is unable or chooses not to attend, the opportunity passes to the President-Elect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Preference Consideration: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the spirit of equity and broad engagement, preference is given to individuals who have not previously attended the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Should both the President and President-Elect decline the opportunity, the board may open the invitation to other key board roles (e.g., Secretary, Treasurer, and other CUPA-recognized leadership positions). This may also serve as a professional incentive for those considering stepping into higher leadership roles<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">*CUPA-HR Chapter Bylaws, Article V, Board of Directors (2016)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Section 1, Officers<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe affairs of the Chapter shall be governed by a Board of Directors with specific duties and authority given to the designated officers which include: President, President-Elect, Past President, Secretary and Treasurer.\u201d \u201cAny additional board positions, including terms of office and officer responsibilities, may be appointed at the discretion of the Board of Directors and presented during the regular annual business meeting of the Chapter, or other time as decided by the designated officers.\u201d <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Section 3. Terms of Office and Tenure<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTerms of office of the President, President-Elect, Past President\u2026 shall begin on July 1 following the date of election and shall continue until the following June 30.\u201d \u201cThe Secretary and the Treasurer shall serve two-year terms beginning on July 1 and ending June 30. Members may be re-elected to a two-year term in these positions.
