2025 Summer Virtual Event

CUPA-HR Northern New England Chapter

The Northern New England CUPA-HR Chapter is pleased to announce our Summer virtual event!

This event will take place over Zoom on Thursday, June 5th from 11am – 12:30pm. Presented by Mandy Levine, licensed Professional Investigator in Maine and licensed attorney in Massachusetts, we invite you to join us for Don’t Trust Your Gut: Evaluating Credibility in Internal Investigations.

This class explores best practices for assessing credibility in workplace investigations, moving beyond the common but unreliable advice to “trust your gut.” Research shows that humans are poor lie detectors, often influenced by biases and misconceptions. We will explore evidence-based factors and techniques to more accurately evaluate witnesses’ credibility to foster fair and objective investigative outcomes.

Topics explored include distinguishing between credibility and reliability; understanding the critical role of credibility assessments in informed decision making; recognizing the pitfalls of relying on demeanor evidence; identifying indicators of potential dishonesty; and mitigating bias in our credibility assessments.  By adopting structured approaches, attendees will enhance their ability to evaluate witnesses and parties accurately.

This session earns 1.5 SHRM Recertification Credits.
