Oregon Chapter Listserv Introduction & Rules

Introducing a New Listserv: oregon@chapterlists.cupahr.org
Tuesday, July 19, 2011

The CUPA-HR Oregon Chapter is pleased to introduce a new e-mail listserv, oregon@chapterlists.cupahr.org, dedicated to promote dialogue about higher education human resource topics in Oregon. The listserv gives members a forum to share ideas, discoveries, and information.
It complements the chapter’s bi-annual conferences that provide opportunities for professional growth, but it’s also intended for members with general questions who would like to poll their colleagues about helpful policies or similar predicaments. Additionally, we hope it will foster increase unity, collaboration and cooperation among all institutions of higher education in the Chapter area.

As this peer-to-peer function suggests, we’ve subscribed all active CUPA-HR Oregon Chapter members to the listserv in order to comprise the broadest yet most relevant audience for college-specific conversations about HR. We don’t anticipate it to be a high-volume listserv, but recognizing that your inboxes are already full, we’ve set some guidelines, please see the below, to make the listserv more effective. Most importantly, it won’t duplicate official chapter announcements about news or events that would be conveyed through separate channels.

Any time you have a question you would like to send along to the listserv, address your e-mail to oregon@chapterlists.cupahr.org.

If you have any comments about the listserv or to unsubscribe, please email Katie Lahey, the Communications Coordinator, directly at klahey@lclark.edu.

The Chapter Board Members will monitor the listserv as a one-year pilot. If it proves effective in letting members know what their colleagues are doing or how they address common issues, we’ll make the listserv a permanent forum.

The Rules
• Do not “flame,” challenge or attack others. The discussions on the lists are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Flaming includes the making of derogatory comments, ridicule, excessive sarcasm and innuendo. Let others have their say, just as you have yours.
• Use caution when discussing items. Information posted on the lists is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
• Do not post commercial messages on any listserv. Contact people directly with product and service information if you believe it would help them.
• All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials or language are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything in a listserv message that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
• Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted to the list.
• Remember that the Oregon Chapter board and other e-mail list participants have the right to reproduce postings to this listserv.
• Do not distribute any SPAM, solicitation, jokes, chain letters, petitions for signatures or letters relating to pyramid schemes, missing persons or once-in-a-lifetime deals.
• Send your message only to the most appropriate list(s). Do not spam several lists with the same message.
• Do not use the listserv to invite the entire list to join your social network (Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin, etc). You may invite individuals to join your network but may not invite the entire list.

Thank you for your help in making this a great chapter!

All the best,

Katie Lahey
