DIRECTOR, CLASSIFICATION & COMPENSATION
The Department of Human Resources at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Director, Classification & Compensation. The individual in this position will direct the University’s classification and compensation program for administrative/professional and university staff employees. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, the person selected for the position will be responsible for developing and implementing classification/compensation guidelines in accordance with Auburn University’s compensation philosophy; managing and conducting job analysis to determine proper classification and pay levels of positions according to guidelines, policy and best practice; directing the preparation of job descriptions and completion of job evaluations; analyzing compensation policies and structures relative to government regulations and prevailing market rates and recommending changes as appropriate to establish and maintain competitive salaries in accordance with the University’s compensation philosophy; advising management on compensation and classification for employees and providing guidance and assistance, training, and policy interpretation to executives, supervisors, and employees; managing the maintenance of position, job and employee records and files related to compensation and classification, including maintenance and manipulation of electronic data; and analyzing organizational pay practices and making recommendations for salary adjustments as needed to ensure equity. Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is also a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion or other tangible employment decisions.
Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Management, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or a related field and seven years’ experience in the direction and management of classification and compensation systems, services and projects. Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. Knowledge of human resource policies, practices, precedents and laws related to the classification and compensation of employees. Computer literacy and ability to utilize software programs, such as spreadsheets and data base management, to analyze data and generate reports. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse constituency at all levels of the institution are a must.
Desired qualifications include: Familiarity with human resource information systems, such as Banner; and automated processes for managing compensation/classification workflow and processes, such as People Admin. Budgeting and project management experience. Certification through the Human Resource Certification Institute in conjunction with the Society for Human Resource Management (SPHR or PHR) and/or World at Work certification (CCP). Salary will be commensurate with education & experience.
